Bitaunioceras was named by Shimizu and Obata (1936) [Sepkoski's age data: P Guad Sepkoski's reference number: 524].
It was assigned to Michelinoceratinae by Teichert et al. (1964); to Spyroceratinae by Niko et al. (1996) and Niko et al. (2000); and to Orthocerida by Sepkoski (2002).
