Taxonomy
Rhynchorthoceras was named by Remelé (1882). Its type is Rhynchorthoceras beyrichi.

It was assigned to Lituitidae by Sweet (1958) and Teichert et al. (1964); and to Sinoceratidae by Evans (2005) and Kröger et al. (2007).
