Taxonomy
Megarhynchus marii was named by Gemmellaro (1894).

It was recombined as Megalorhynchus marii by de Gregorio (1930); it was recombined as Gemmellaroia marii by Muir-Wood and Cooper (1960), Termier and Termier (1977) and Verna and Angiolini (2010).
