Inoceramus tenuilineatus was named by Hall and Meek (1855) [DISTRIBUTION: Campanian; Western Interior, South Africa.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Inoceramus (Cataceramus) tenuilineatus by Kennedy et al. (1973).
