Taxonomy
Ammonites olene was named by Tenison-Woods (1883) [DISTRIBUTION: Aptian; Australia.]. It is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Palmer River [Roma Series], which is in an Aptian marine claystone in Australia.

It was recombined as Sanmartinoceras olene by Whitehouse (1926) and Whitehouse (1927).
