Argentavis magnificens
Taxonomy
Argentavis magnificens was named by Campbell and Tonni (1980). Its type specimen is MLP 65-VIII-29-49, a partial skeleton (portion of skull, fragmentary humerus and other limb bones), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Salinas Grandes de Hidalgo, which is in a Huayquerian fluvial siltstone in the Epecuén Formation of Argentina.
