Polonoceras was named by Dybczynski (1913) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-l Sepkoski's reference number: 1042]. It is not extant. Its type is Polonoceras planum.

It was reranked as Tornoceras (Polonoceras) by Glenister (1958).

It was assigned to Tornoceras by Glenister (1958); to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Aulatornoceratinae by Korn and Klug (2002) and Korn (2006).
