Taxonomy
Spirolegoceras was named by Miller et al. (1957) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon-u]. Its type is Spirolegoceras fischeri. It is the type genus of Spirolegoceratinae.

It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Spirolegoceratidae by Leonova (2002) and Korn (2006); and to Spirolegoceratinae by Furnish et al. (2009).
