Stenoglaphyrites was named by Ruzhentsev and Bogoslovskaya (1971) [Sepkoski's age data: C Serp-l C Bash-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302,304]. It is the type genus of Stenoglaphyritinae.
It was assigned to Goniatitida by Sepkoski (2002); to Stenoglaphyritidae by Titus (2000), Korn (2006); and to Stenoglaphyritinae by Furnish et al. (2009).
