Fodonyx was named by Hone and Benton (2008). It is not extant. Its type is Rhynchosaurus spenceri.
It was assigned to Rhynchosauridae by Hone and Benton (2008), Mukherjee and Ray (2015); and to Rhynchosauridae by Ezcurra et al. (2016).
