Arctosirenites was named by Tozer (1961) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Carn-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Arctosirenites canadensis.

It was assigned to Sirenitinae by Tozer (1981); to Arpaditinae by Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
