Balkanites was named by Ganev (1966) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Dagnoceratinae by Ganev (1966); to Meekoceratidae by Kummel (1969); to Dinaritinae by Tozer (1981); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Dinaritidae by Brayard et al. (2009).
