Taxonomy
Halorites was named by Mojsisovics (1879) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori-m Tr Nori-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Ammonites ramsaueri. It is the type genus of Haloritidae, Haloritinae.

It was assigned to Haloritinae by Tozer (1981) and Shevyrev (1990); to Haloritidae by Smith (1927), Spath (1951) and Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
