Taxonomy
Inyoites was named by Hyatt and Smith (1905) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is the type genus of Inyoitidae.

It was assigned to Xenoceltitidae by Kummel and Steele (1962); to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Inyoitidae by Tozer (1981) and Brayard et al. (2013).
