Prosphingites (Zenoites) was named by Renz and Renz (1948) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Prosphingites (Zenoites) helenae.

It was reranked as Zenoites by Tozer (1981), Tozer (1994) and Sepkoski (2002).

It was assigned to Prosphingites by Renz and Renz (1948); to Paranannitidae by Tozer (1981) and Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
