Docidoceras was named by Buckman (1919) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bajo-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Docidoceras cylindroides.

It was assigned to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Otoitidae by Arkell et al. (1957), Westermann (1969), Galácz (2015).
