Taxonomy
Carcharopsis prototypus was named by Agassiz (1843). Its type specimen is NHM P.5445, a tooth (isolated crown), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pateley Bridge, which is in a Brigantian marine limestone in the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Carcharopsis.
