Taxonomy
Neocomites was named by Uhlig (1905) [Sepkoski's age data: K Berr K Haut-l]. Its type is Ammonites neocomiensis. It is the type genus of Neocomitidae, Neocomitinae.

It was assigned to Berriasellidae by Wiedmann (1979); to Ammonoidea by Imlay (1960) and Sepkoski (2002); and to Neocomitinae by Klein (2005) and Zell et al. (2015).
