Taxonomy
Oxynoticeras was named by Hyatt (1874) [Sepkoski's age data: J Sine-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant. Its type is Ammonites oxynotus.

It was reranked as Arietites (Oxynoticeras) by Canavari (1882).

It was assigned to Arietites by Canavari (1882); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Oxynoticeratidae by Bremer (1965), Meister and Friebe (2003), Geczy and Meister (2007) and Howarth (2013).
