Taxonomy
Otodus latus was named by Agassiz (1838).

It was recombined as Lamna lata by Woodward (1889); it was recombined as Cretolamna appendiculata lata by Cappetta and Case (1975), Herman (1977), Itoigawa (1977), Case (1979); it was synonymized subjectively with Cretolamna appendiculata by Case and Schwimmer (1988); it was synonymized subjectively with Cretalamna appendiculata by Shimada et al. (2006); it was recombined as Cretolamna lata by Brignon (2015).
