Promicroceras was named by Spath (1925) [Sepkoski's age data: J Sine-l J Sine-u Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); to Eoderoceratinae by Howarth (2013); and to Eoderoceratidae by Meister and Friebe (2003) and Edmunds et al. (2016).
