Taxonomy
Sonneratia was named by Bayle (1878) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-l K Albi-m]. Its type is Ammonites dutempleanus.

It was assigned to Hoplitidae by Kennedy et al. (1980); to Hoplitinae by Kennedy et al. (1981); to Sonneratiinae by Wright et al. (1996); and to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002).
