Taxonomy
Spitidiscus was named by Kilian (1910) [Sepkoski's age data: K Haut-l K Barr-u]. It is the type genus of Spitidiscinae.

It was assigned to Holcodiscidae by Haas (1960); to Barremitinae by Wright et al. (1996); to Ammonoidea by Imlay (1960) and Sepkoski (2002); and to Spitidiscinae by Rawson and Aguirre-Urreta (2012).
