Taxonomy
Pinna latrania was named by Hanna (1926). Its type specimen is USNM 324593, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS 3922 - Garnet Cañon [Imperial Fm], which is in a Messinian/Zanclean marine sandstone in the Imperial Formation of California.
It was recombined as Pinna (Pinna) latrania by Grant, IV and Gale (1931) and Moore (1983).
