Rhaetavicula was named by Cox (1961) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Rhae]. It is not extant. Its type is Rhaetavicula contorta.

It was assigned to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pteriidae by Cox (1961), Vokes (1980), Ros-Franch et al. (2014).
