Lyrodesma was named by Conrad (1841) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-u S Ldov-u Sepkoski's reference number: 91]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Lyrodesmatidae by Harrison and Harrison (1975) and Vokes (1980); and to Modiomorphoida by Sepkoski (2002).
