Parvicardium was named by Monterosato (1884) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 914]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Cardiinae by Vokes (1980); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cardiidae by Wienrich (1999) and Schneider et al. (2005).
