Pelecyora was named by Dall (1902) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than R Sepkoski's reference number: 914]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Pitarinae by Vokes (1980), Freneix et al. (1988); to Veneridae by Marasti (1973), Squires (1999), Wienrich (1999); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
