Taxonomy
Unicardium was named by d'Orbigny (1850) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen-u K Maes Sepkoski's reference number: 791,991].

It was synonymized subjectively with Mactromya by Cox (1929).

It was assigned to Lucinidae by Meek (1864); to Mactromyidae by Cox et al. (1969) and Vokes (1980); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
