Bevanopsis was named by Cooper (1953) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llvi-u O Cara-l Sepkoski's reference number: 795]. Its type is Bevanopsis ulrichi.

It was assigned to Cybelinae by Evitt and Tripp (1977); to Encrinuridae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002).
