Holia was named by Bradley (1930) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llde O Ashg-u Sepkoski's reference number: 690]. Its type is Holia magnaspina.

It was assigned to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cheiruridae by Jell and Adrain (2003).
