Taxonomy
Cancer fissus was named by Rathbun (1908). Its type specimen is USNM 165477, a carapace, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS 4756, Henry Spring, which is in a Zanclean coastal siliciclastic in the Etchegoin Formation of California.
It was recombined as Cancer (Cancer) fissus by Nations (1975).
