Pisa was named by Leach (1816) [Sepkoski's age data: Q Plei R]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Pisinae.

It was assigned to Decapoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pisinae by Müller (1984), Schweitzer et al. (2010) and Schweitzer et al. (2020).
