Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
C. Villarroel and L. G. Marshall 1988Smallest known species of Argyrolagidae; lower molars hypselodont, lack vertical grooves labially and lingually which in other taxa subdivide crowns into anterior and posterior lobes, M4 greatly reduced in size relative to M3; differs from Proarghyrolagus in having hypselodont not hypsodont cheek teeth, absence of labial and lingual grooves (i.e., molars not bilobed), anterior part of crowns distinctly broader than posterior, M4 greatly reduced relative to M3; differs from Argyrolagus in lacking labial and lingual grooves, M4 reduced relative to M3; differs from Microtagulus in lacking labial groove on lower molars and in the greater reduction of M4 relative to M3; in overall structure and size Hondalagus altiplanensis compares best with Microtragulus catamarcensis.
