Taxonomy
Brachyplatystoma promagdalena was named by Lundberg (2005). Its type specimen is IGM 183062, a set of postcrania (Weber complex), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Malacobagrus Duke 6, which is in a Laventan lacustrine claystone/mudstone in the Villavieja Formation of Colombia.
