Schizogonium lamellosum was named by Bandel (1991). Its type specimen is NHMW 1990/621 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Campo near Cortina d'Ampezzo (NHMW coll), which is in a Julian marine horizon in the Cassian Formation of Italy.
