Taxonomy
Charactosuchus fieldsi was named by Langston (1965). Its type specimen is UCMP 39646, a mandible (Partial mandibles), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Toxodont Locality; UCMP V4519, which is in a Laventan terrestrial claystone in the Villavieja Formation of Colombia.
