Angusticardinia was named by Schuchert and Cooper (1931). Its type is Porambonites recta. It is the type genus of Angusticardiniidae.
It was assigned to Syntrophopsidae by Rubel (1961); to Angusticardiniidae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Orthida by Sepkoski (2002).
