Glossorthis was named by Öpik (1930). It is not extant. Its type is Glossorthis tacens. It is the type genus of Glossorthinae.

It was reranked as Orthis (Glossorthis) by Reed (1936).

It was assigned to Orthis by Reed (1936); to Orthinae by Rubel (1961); to Glossorthinae by Williams et al. (2000); and to Orthida by Sepkoski (2002).
