Taxonomy
Asterostemma acostae was named by Villarroel (1983). Its type specimen is ICN-225-1, an osteoderm (Carapace fragment with 44 plates), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Boreostemma acostae by Zurita et al. (2013), Gonzalez-Ruiz et al. (2015).

| C. Villarroel 1983 | Carapace plates smaller than those of Asterostemma venezolensis Simpson. The central figures of dorsal and dorsolateral plates are flat or convex. The figures of the plates closer to the border of the carapace are flat. The diameter of each figure is 40 or 50 percent the diameter of the figure of the adjacent plates. The posterior teeth of the jaw are narrow and trilobed. Each lobule is different and changes from the lingual to the labial side. |
