Taxonomy
Eopholidostrophia was named by Harper et al. (1967). Its type is Stropheodonta sefinensis.

It was reranked as Pholidostrophia (Eopholidostrophia) by Cocks (1978).

It was assigned to Pholidostrophia by Cocks (1978); to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Eopholidostrophiidae by Williams et al. (2000), Musteikis and Cocks (2004) and Rubel (2011).
