Taxonomy
Proboscisambon was named by Havlicek and Mergl (1982). Its type is Strophomena quaesita.

It was assigned to Strophomenida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Glyptomeninae by Williams et al. (2000) and Hints and Harper (2015).
