Taxonomy
Sphaerirhynchia was named by Cooper and Muir-Wood (1951). Its type is Terebratula wilsoni. It is the type genus of Sphaerirhynchiinae.

It was assigned to Hebetoechiinae by Bassett and Cocks (1974); to Sphaerirhynchiinae by Savage and Goodwin (1998) and Williams et al. (2002); and to Rhynchonellida by Sepkoski (2002).
