Uncinella was named by Waagen (1883) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon-m P Leon-u Sepkoski's reference number: 403]. Its type is Uncinella indica.

It was assigned to Misoliinae by Williams et al. (2002); and to Spiriferida by Sepkoski (2002).
