Taxonomy
Glyptograptus was named as a genus. It is not extant. Its type is Diplograptus tamariscus. It was considered monophyletic by Melchin et al. (2011).

It was reranked as Diplograptus (Glyptograptus) by Elles and Wood (1907).

It was assigned to Diplograptus by Elles and Wood (1907); to Diplograptidae by Bulman (1970); to Glyptograptinae by Mitchell (1987); to Graptoloidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Petalolithinae by Melchin et al. (2011).
