Urobairdia austriaca was named by Kollmann (1963). Its type specimen is GBA/0144, a test, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Loc. 23 - Roßmoos [Halstatt Fm], which is in a Sevatian carbonate limestone in the Halstatt Formation of Austria.
