Ammonites lemfoerdensis was named by Schluter (1872). It is the type species of Hoplitoplacenticeras (Lemfoerdiceras).

It was recombined as Hoplitoplacenticeras (Lemfoerdiceras) lemfoerdensis by Kennedy (1986).
