Reteocrinus was named by Billings (1859) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-l O Ashg-m Sepkoski's reference number: 239]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Crinoidea by Bigby (1868); to Diplobathrida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Reteocrinidae by Wachsmuth and Springer (1885), Raymond (1931), Ausich (1998) and Cole et al. (2018).
