Platycrinites was named by Miller (1821) [Sepkoski's age data: D l P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Platycrinitoidea.
It was assigned to Monobathrida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Platycrinitidae by Campbell and Bein (1971), Webster and Lane (1987), Webster and Sevastopulo (2007) and Webster et al. (2009).
