Ristnacrinus was named by Opik (1934). Its type is Ristnacrinus marinus.

It was assigned to Eustenocrinidae by Donovan (1984); to Disparida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Iocrinidae by Donovan (1985) and Ausich et al. (2015).
